Unfortunately…

And sadly, I just found out that I did not get any of my looks into the show. It was a very disappointing moment but at least I know that I am in a group of very talented people who also did not get into the show. There is only a very small number of students who are chosen and many many students are not. I was surprised and happy enough that our critic, Lisa chose my looks for the pre-judging. Everyone has a distinct aesthetic and mine is pretty unusual. For example, I am pretty certain many people would not walk out of their home in what I sometimes dress like – this was today’s outfit!

Finally, I believe this is the end of our time together since I will not have anything to do with the fashion show. I will be watching it from my computer like some of you and I am sure it will be excellent. Bye and thank you for reading!

Ready for judging

Happy Monday, everyone!

I would like to share with you the pictures of the accessories I made for my garments during the break. I made two little hats to go with the two looks.

After all our hard work, we have our garments in the Great Hall ready to be judged tomorrow. Here are some photos of the childrenswear garments I took. Enjoy!

I also took some pictures of the work of my amazing friends from other specializations. I was blown away by what everyone did!

End of Spring break

It has been spring break. I cannot believe how fast it has come to the end.  For fashion design students, spring break is usually not a time for fun and relaxation but still-working-crazy time. I tried to catch up on my life a little during spring break – for example, my parents have been very annoyed that they haven’t seen me in months since they only live in Brooklyn. I finally saw them during spring break. I also tried to clean up my apartment since it has become quite messy during the semester. However, I still had quite a large amount of school work so even though I never rested during spring break, I didn’t get a chance to do everything I wanted to do at all.

Tomorrow is also one of the big days of the semester because we are setting up our garments to be judged on Tuesday so you will hear from me on Tuesday whether or not we got into the show. I hope you are keeping your fingers crossed for me!

Critic judging day

It has been a tough few weeks – working as hard as ever. I have never had such little sleep! Those ruffles really became my life for a while. The finishing of the garments was very time-consuming – linings, facings, bindings and closures are just some of the things that we have to carefully work on. This sleeve took many hours to finish:

Luckily the busiest part is mostly over. Yesterday, we showed our garments to Lisa and she chose the looks that would be shown to the judges to be further selected for the fashion show. Everyone in the class had at least one garment chosen, some people including me had two! Take a look at how we did:

I have been playing with the panoramic feature of the iPhone. I really love it! Here is another one of our judging day:

I was so relieved to have finished my work that while Lisa was looking at our garments, I took a break and met up with my lovely classmates. You can just see the joy in my face from being done! Also, during my time at FIT, these two girls have become lifelong friends of mine and I would just like to thank them for their support and friendship. <3

2 AM Closing Time

The fashion design studios close at 2AM, which is when I left school tonight. The security guards go around remind students that they have to leave around 1:50. It is quite a sad time – all the students are desperately trying to finish their work but they have to go!

I used to be frustrated that students couldn’t stay longer when I was a freshmen but then I realized that if the classrooms didn’t close, many students would probably NEVER leave. It is getting to a pretty crazy time for some of the design students. The associate degree students are getting ready for their show and so are the seniors and you can almost feel the tension and anxiety in the hallways.

Lisa is coming in on Monday to pick out the garments to be judged so we are on a major deadline. The sleep deprivation of me and my classmates is quite intense. Many of us are running around looking like we haven’t slept in days and just frantic to finish our garments. I am sure it will turn out well and everyone will show their best efforts but I think everyone will just be happy to finally be able to get some rest Monday night!
