I remember cutting up my mom’s old shirts and hand sewing dresses for my Barbies. I remember styling crazy dresses from blankets and towels to do photo shoots with my cousin and sister. I remember when my first-grade teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up, and I said fashion designer when I didn’t even know what that was. In my middle school yearbook, there’s a section where we were allowed to write where we wanted to be in 10 years, and I also wrote fashion designer. In high school, I was in love with the idea of attending a school where I could be free to make the things I only dreamed of so I auditioned for the High School of Art and Design. My whole life has led me to become a designer. I think fashion design is the most powerful art. It can change someone’s confidence, first impression, attitude. Fashion to me is architecture, history, culture. Fashion design has been in my heart since I was a little girl and I especially love my specialization in Sportswear, because these are everyday garments for everyday statements. More than anything, I want to design to fulfill my purpose.
