Faculty Profile – Barbara Seggio

Barbara Seggio

Barbara Seggio is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Fashion Design at FIT. She has over 30 years of teaching experience in all areas of apparel. Barbara began teaching her passion, children’s wear design, 25 years ago.

Her students’ work has been featured in WWD, Earnshaw’s, Hudson News, and many others. Over the years she has mentored many of the Fashion Design faculty and is happy to say she actually taught two of the current Children’s Wear faculty. In addition to teaching in FIT’s BFA program, she also teaches in the AAS program as well as Pre-College classes and internationally at ZSTU (Zhejiang Sci-Tech University) in Hangzhou, China. Aside from teaching, Barbara has edited two books on fashion and sewing. One of her latest projects — and the one she is most proud of  —  is co-creating the Baby Slip Tee, a garment for new mothers to wear after giving birth. This product will help keep the baby safe in the mother’s arms should she fall asleep while feeding it. This idea was brought to FIT by Montefiore Hospital and is FIT’s first patent. In her free time, Barbara enjoys spending time with her husband Joe and her children, who are both FIT graduates.
