I was inspired by a work of performance art, Sirenomelia, in Sicily. I was especially struck by the fusion of non-human and human beings. My collection, Sirenomelia, is an aesthetic interpretation of a human-fish hybrid form. The story is set in the fantasy world of an injured dancer who cannot return to the stage. She imagines herself as a betta fish swimming in the water. The dancer represents those who are deemed ugly by conventional standards. But the existence of her form is beautiful, even if it is imperfect.
