Cyberpunk, as new kind of science fiction, appeared in the 1980s with the promise of rejuvenating the genre. A "classic one-two combination of lowlife and high tech," Cyberpunk concerns itself with the meeting of human and machine, and the meeting of cybernetic organization and punk anarchy. It is a genre of the interface, concerned with the places where opposites are squeezed into an uncomfortable proximity to create something new.
