The philosophy that "technical knowledge is creative power" shaped the course of Sandra Ferrara's design journey. During her early career designing sweaters, there was minimal access to innovative development technology in the design room. Determined to work in an environment that harnessed the creative possibilities of technology compelled Ferrara to launch Knit Concepts NYC.
Knit Concepts NYC began during a period of enormous innovation and technological advancement in knitting-machine capabilities and systems, and in textile CAD software. Strong partnerships allowed Ferrara the unique opportunity to explore, learn, and utilize this burgeoning technology to design and develop innovative knitwear collections.
For Ferrara, the opportunity to share her knowledge with FIT's gifted emerging designers—whose talent and desire to learn and apply technology is unsurpassed—has become the most rewarding and fulfilling period of her career, and mentoring them during their thesis journey has been a great honor.
