FIT Future of Fashion 2024

Tom Scott

Tom Scott is an associate professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where he mentors the next generation of designers in the Fashion Design BFA program. Specializing in Knitwear and Sportswear, he has played a pivotal role in shaping new curriculum, co-authoring a course that focuses on sustainable design practices. His guidance has led students to achieve significant recognition, including the prestigious Loro Piana Knit Design Award (2023–2025).
Scott studied Textile Design at Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, and at Heriot-Watt University in the Galashiels, Scotland. Over his career, he has consulted for numerous companies, including Ralph Lauren, and has designed under his own eponymous label since 2001. His work pushes the boundaries of materiality and construction, blending sustainability with innovation. Known for its subversive and experimental nature, his design philosophy blurs the lines between garment, accessory, and interior. Scott’s work has been widely recognized through awards and exhibitions, including the 2006 Cooper Hewitt National Design Triennial and the 2007 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award. He was a finalist for the 2008 Woolmark Prize and, in 2010, was selected for the inaugural CFDA/Fashion Incubator program, recognizing him as one of 10 designers shaping the future of fashion.
