FIT Future of Fashion 2024

Convergence

Model at left is standing, wearing dark gray mock-neck pullover with colorful red-hooded scarf and light gray cable-knit sweatpants. Model at right is standing, wearing forest intarsia sweater with color-blocked neck gaiter and red blanket skirt.

Two looks from "Convergence," a collection inspired by Pittsburgh's transformation from 1940–today.

Model standing, wearing dark gray mock-neck pullover with arms outstretch to highlight the colorful red-hooded scarf. Cable-knit gray sweatpants complete the look.

The scarf reads "News-O-Rama," a store that was owned by my grandfather until its closure in 2004.

Standing model is wearing forest intarsia sweater with color-blocked neck gaiter and full-length red blanket skirt.

The Intarsia sweater depicts a rendition of Pitt Panther and should be an heirloom for generations.

Sitting model wearing dark gray racked mock-neck pullover with colorful knit scarf and light gray cable-knit sweatpants.

Cable-knit sweatpants are a play on the collegiate cable sweater. Adjustable waist and ankle ties.

Model sits on wood bleachers wearing forest intarsia sweater with color-blocked neck gaiter and ankle-length red blanket skirt.

The blanket skirt is designed to keep the wearer warm at cold outdoor events like football games.

This collection was inspired by an assembly of photographs from the Carnegie Museum of Art’s Photography Collection that were taken between the years 1949 and 1952. They capture Pittsburgh in transition from a factory town to a city fit for modern times. I took inspiration from growing up in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area and witnessing Pittsburgh try to find a new identity again, creating looks that are practical yet have a sense that something doesn't belong.
