“Inferno” is the first of three books that make up Dante’s narrative of The Divine Comedy. In these looks, I show my interpretation of a classic piece of literature by drawing from punishments assigned to the layers of hell, as described in the book. Further exploring each in more depth, I chose to highlight the seventh layer of hell, containing “The Wood of Suicide,” in which the souls of those who harmed themselves on Earth turn into marled trees. I used the human-tree hybrids as visual inspiration for my looks.
