Front view, ivory wool crepe gown with black tulle petticoat on the sides

This is a tailored ivory wool crepe gown with a shawl collar, single breasted with snap closure.

The side view shows the black tulle petticoat.

Several layers of net and black veil tulle help the wool crepe to stand and enhance the hips.

This back view shows the silhouette of the shawl collar and the back panels of the skirt, which give fullness to the gown.

The back has a slightly longer hem to contrast with the petticoat and to elongate the silhouette.

This frontal three-quarter view showcases the front panels of the ivory crepe as well as the shape of the shawl collar.

This hip extension was created with shoulder pads and white hymo.

Detail shot of the curve hips

This pattern was inspired by the Ribbon Dress from Charles James.

The idea for this collection came from the contradicting emotions of yearning to be in two places at once. As an immigrant fashion design student in the United States, I wanted to express the dichotomy between wishing to be in my hometown in Mexico, while simultaneously living in New York City and following my dreams. I decided to convey these opposite elements through contrasting colors, the use of tailoring techniques, and a combination of structure and soft drapery.
