The lacing is inspired by being a self-taught seamstress, growing up doing mostly hand stitching.
The lacing detail also represents the stitching together of my memories from my journey and growth.
Each of the pieces that are laced together represent different experiences that helped shape me.
The organic floral print of the fabric represents growth.
Each eyelet was put in by hand, and the lacing is fully adjustable.
My project, Reminiscence, is inspired by nostalgia for the period of time when my passion for fashion design began. As a young girl, I was exposed to sewing and draping by my mother and grandmother. I would often play with their bins of fabric and create draped and hand-stitched silhouettes on myself or my dolls. This project is inspired by fragmented memories coming together to create the nostalgic and whimsical feeling of playing with my mother's and grandmother's scrap fabrics and ribbons.
