Paula Varsalona
Paula Varsalona is an internationally acclaimed couture bridal designer whose career spans more than five decades. As founder of Paula Varsalona Ltd., established in 1975, she has built a distinguished New York City–based label known for its timeless elegance, exceptional craftsmanship, and highly personalized designs for brides and mothers. Over 70,000 brides have worn her gowns, and her work has been widely featured in major media outlets including Brides, Martha Stewart Weddings, USA Today, Entertainment Tonight, NBC’s The Apprentice II, and Lifetime’s 24 Hour Catwalk. Her designs have also graced the red carpet, worn by notable figures such as Chandra Wilson, and she has been recognized by New York Magazine as one of the country’s top bridal designers.
Varsalona’s collections are celebrated for luxurious fabrics such as pure silk taffeta and Dupioni silk, combined with intricate detailing, including imported lace, Swarovski crystals, and soft floral embellishments. In addition to her bridal lines, her successful Red Carpet Collection offers sophisticated options for special occasions and destination weddings.
Beyond her design achievements, Varsalona is a dedicated philanthropist and trailblazer for numerous organizations. She has broken barriers as one of the first female leaders within UNICO, earning honors such as “Person of the Year” and the prestigious Cianci Award for her charitable contributions. Her philanthropic efforts have supported cancer research, education, and community initiatives, including significant fundraising for the Jimmy V Foundation and the Siteman Cancer Center.
An alumna of Washington University in St. Louis, where she earned her BFA, Varsalona remains deeply engaged with the institution, contributing through mentorship, scholarships, and advisory roles. She has also served as a tenured adjunct professor at FIT, mentoring emerging designers and helping shape the next generation of talent.
Her numerous accolades include “Woman of the Year” by the Center for Italian and Italian-American Culture, “Best 50 Women in Business” in New Jersey, and the 2023 Lifetime Achievement in Business Enterprise Award from the Association of Italian American Educators. She has also contributed internationally as a jury member for Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week.
