The most well-known character from Dominican Republic's Carnaval is el Diablo Cojuelo, or "Limping Devil." The hellish masks depicting this character symbolize freedom, resilience, and defiance. I draw inspiration from these beautifully frightening costumes for my collection, each garment embodying the idea of creativity and fantasy, of living life to the fullest, and of being unashamedly yourself. My project captures the chaotic, bigger-than-life essence of these bright and colorful demons with beads, feathers, and masks.
