ADORNMENT presents a playful reinterpretation of the gothic feminist horror tale “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. My collection draws on the protagonist’s vision of a woman within the wallpaper and her fractured sense of self. Trompe-l’œil appliquéd dresses and molded leather mimicking a string of pearls blur the line between reality and illusion, while exaggerated silhouettes evoke a sense of distortion. ADORNMENT seeks to transform the darkness of the story into something playfully surreal.
