Get to know…. Laura Marabondo

Where are you from?
Woodland Park, New Jersey

How old are you?
23

What are some of your hobbies outside of school?

I just love exploring the city. I don’t live in New York, so when I’m here I love finding new places to eat and doing all the fun things it offers.

When and why did you become interested in fashion?

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved art and would have a pencil and paper in hand everywhere I went. My mother always made me and my sister’s Halloween costumes since I could remember. I would see her sewing and took a liking to it. She taught me how to sew and it just stayed with me ever since!

How would you describe your design aesthetic?

Very girly and feminine. I like to take inspiration from womenswear and translate it into a little girls’ wardrobe, always keeping it super cute.

Describe your inspiration for your senior collection.

My inspiration for my collection was a little bit of ballerina and a little bit of boho chic.

What size range are you doing and describe some of the pieces you are making. (skirt, dress, jacket, etc…)

I made one look that was a size 5 and one a size 10. My little one was a mauve/purple colored leather jacket and I hand quilted the sleeves and yoke. I made a soft pink silk charmeuse top and a multiple layered tulle skirt. My bigger style was an off white fur vest matched with a floral printed dress.

Who are you doing your senior internship with this semester?

I am actually interning with a bridal designer since special occasion was originally what I wanted to do. Her name is Hayley Paige. She’s a super chic, glitzy glam, not your boring traditional wedding dress designer.

I would love to stick with bridal or at least stay in children’s wear special occasion.

Fashion Show Fitting

Friday was the fitting for the fashion show! Specific models were assigned to each outfit, embodying the look of the garment.  At the fitting, the design students were able to check the fit of their outfits, and try out accessories.  Each year they choose something for the kids to have with every outfit.  Last year every girl held a balloon down the runway.  This year they each get headphones!! How cute!
