Frederick Anderson

Founder

Frederick Anderson has lived at the heart of the fashion world for the past 20 years. After studying fashion design at FIT, he and Douglas Hannant launched a couture collection that quickly became one of New York’s most exclusive couture lines. The duo named their business Douglas Hannant.
And over the years, their high-profile clientele grew to include Beyonce, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Hudson, Janet Jackson, and others. After leaving Douglas Hannant in 2014, Anderson launched and presided over Hanley Mellon, the high-contemporary clothing line owned by Jimmy Choo-founder Matthew Mellon.

Then, in 2017, seeking to tell his personal story, Anderson launched a label under his own name. The debut Frederick Anderson collection, titled Black Like Me, was created with couture fabrics and crocheted pieces and received wide critical acclaim. Thus, Anderson’s new chapter began. His eponymous luxury ready-to-wear line is inspired by the world and made in America.

The collections convey the designer’s history, translated through clothing, with pieces that balance modern lines with the finest couture fabrics, construction, and details. Hand-crocheted pieces, crafted by artisans in Buenos Aires, elevate textures and acknowledge the global concern about sustainability.

In recognition of his new label’s phenomenal success, Anderson won the 2023 Fashion Group International Rising Star Award in Womenswear. In April of this year, he opened the flagship Frederick Anderson boutique in the NoMad neighborhood of NYC.
