FIT is part of the State University of New York, offering 48programs that are affordable and relevant to today’s rapidly changing fields. FIT draws on its New York City location to provide a vibrant, diverse community in which to learn. Founded in 1944 to meet the fashion industry’s need for well educated, highly skilled designers and managers, the college now includes a range of creative fields, from toy design, animation, and game design to cosmetics marketing, international trade, and filmmaking. It has approximately 8,000 students and grants AAS, BFA, BS, MA, MFA, and MPS degrees.
In 2022, the Center on Education and the Workforce atGeorgetown University placed FIT first among public colleges that predominantly award associate’s degrees for its “net present value” 10 years post-graduation, a measure of return on investment; FIT placed second among public four-year colleges. CEOWORLD magazine ranked FIT first on its list of Best Fashion Schools in the World for 2023.
