Barbara Seggio is an adjunct associate professor of Fashion Design at FIT with over 30 years of teaching experience in all areas of apparel. She began teaching her passion, children's wear design, 25 years ago.
Her students’ work has been featured in WWD, Earnshaw’s, Hudson News, and many other publications. Over the years Seggio has mentored many of the FIT Fashion Design faculty and is happy to say she actually taught two of the current children's wear faculty. In addition to teaching in the college's BFA program, she also teaches the associate's degree students, precollege classes, and internationally at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in Hangzhou, China.
Aside from teaching, Seggio has edited two books on fashion and sewing. One of her latest projects is co-creating the Baby Slip Tee, a garment for new mothers to wear after giving birth. This product helps keep a baby safe in their mother’s arms if their mother falls asleep while feeding them. This idea was brought to FIT by Montefiore Hospital and is FIT’s first patent. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Joe, and her children, who are both FIT graduates.
