My thesis attempts to reminisce an adolescent time of discovering love and sexuality through a lens of heightened romanticization. The innocent surrounding nature acts as a symbolic catalyst to our freedom. This turbulent and strange process is inherently a part of our nature and the core of our expansion.

The images were taken at one of the few deserted grass areas in Ho Chi Minh City, near the home where I spent my adolescent years growing up.

Thesis look recreated using CLO 3D fashion design software showing hand-loomed corset and skirt embellished with embroidery and beading over the halter top and floral net jacquard puffed sleeve sweater.

Back view of thesis look shows bow detail above hand-loomed lined mohair corset over a floral net jacquard puffed sleeve sweater and hand-loomed mohair skirt embellished with embroidery and beading.

Embellishments include beading, crochet flowers, embroidery using materials hand-picked and sourced from multiple markets, small local shops, and inventories across Vietnam. Novelty yarns were also locally sourced.
Meet the Designer

Growing up both in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), I observed parts of the industrial development, yet also the birth of a hardworking, optimistic, and vibrant indie community that actively works to preserve, restore, and loosen boundaries of cultural and generational differences. Every day, I see people continuously keeping their crafts alive, from silk embroideries to ironwork and clay work…while breathing into the old new mediums approachable and accessible for people of different ages and backgrounds. Each day, I see people having to work in laborious and unhealthy polluted environments, just so they can have enough money to afford medicine and education. The place I grew up in, with the information I have accumulated through studying abroad, has built the core of my own brand. I wish to contribute to this fashion melting pot with designs that are ethical, sustainable, vocal, and true to their roots.
