DNA

My thesis is based on DNA—specifically my background. Growing up biracial and adopted, I always struggled with self-identity. The silhouette symbolizes a blend of structured Eastern European design with a Western flare. Another detail is the embroidery placed on the sleeves that signify coordinates of important locations from my upbringing, including my childhood home and FIT. Also, there are various quotes from “The Color of Water,” a book by James McBride that is about on race and identity.
