Special Occasion
Vinicunca (which means Rainbow Mountains in Quechua, an ancient Peruvian language)
This piece stemmed from a surprise trip to Peru for my boyfriend’s birthday. While traveling, we embraced and indulged in all aspects of the Peruvian culture, from the food to its amazing attractions. After meeting with natives in the mountains and learning about Peru’s weaving traditions, it became apparent these people are well-versed in textiles and sustainability. As such, I wanted to embody the richness of nature and color into my designs, employing the culture that inspired my collection.

This is an up-close shot of the front of my dress, featuring alpaca loops and beading on the hijab.

A semi side view of my dress, featuring beading at the bottom that resembles the Rainbow Mountains.

A front view of my dress, showing beading, alpaca, and knitting techniques.

A back view of my dress demonstrating how the hijab falls when wrapped.

An up-close view of my knitted hijab, knitted sleeves, and alpaca loops on my seamed breast panels.
